About the Sensual Vegan

The Sensual Vegan has been doing business online since 2004, before this whole "green sex" craze hit the market. (In its former incarnation, it was named the Veg Sex Shop.) The Sensual Vegan was schemed up alongside Veg Porn, the only adult site that features a cast of vegan and vegetarian models. Both are run by yours truly, an avocado-loving woman who's been an adult model for almost 8 years, and vegan for almost 11.

I decided to open this store because there wasn't anything else in veggieland that carried many good lubes, let alone -gasp- sex toys. The other online vegan stores hid condoms and lube (if they carried them) in an obscure subcategory of their web sites. I wanted to create a place where sexual pleasure wasn't stuffed next to the tampons and herbal herpes ointment in an "embarrassing things" section.

The Sensual Vegan donates 5% of all sales to Scarleteen, a sex-positive sex education resource site aimed at young people. (Scarleteen also happens to be helmed by a herbivore.)

Frequently asked questions

Q: I don't want anyone to know what I'm ordering! How are purchases shipped?
A: All orders are sent discreetly in plain boxes or padded mailers without anything to identify the contents, so your sex life is safe from the prying eyes of mail carriers, parents, roommates, etc. The return label is just an address, and "TSV", not "The Sensual Vegan".

Q: I'm allergic to latex. Do you know of any non-latex vegan condoms?
A: Glyde does indeed make non-latex condoms, but they are not available for sale in the US yet. (Though, if you poke around online, you will find other retailers selling them in spite of them not actually being approved for sale in this country.) Once they do clear FDA approval, I will carry them. Other than that, I don't know. Condom companies are notoriously difficult to try and pry information out of, so all I can do is suggest emailing the makers of other polyurethane condoms and seeing if they will reply to your email. (None have replied to me.)

Q: What about vegan birth control pills? Are there any other vegan contraception options?
A: All birth control pills are tested on animals, and most, if not all, seem to contain animal-derived ingredients. You can try asking the pharmaceutical companies as to which of their pills might be free from animal by-products, but they'll all still the product of vivisection. Other than vegan condoms, the only reliable option for preventing pregnancy is sterilization. I do NOT suggest using the various rhythm/temperature/chart-your-menstrual-cycle methods unless it wouldn't actually bother you to become pregnant.

Q: Are you planning to carry a toy cleaner?
A: "Sex toy cleaners" are just another gimmicky product in the sea of stupid items sold to people through most adult stores. They are usually made of harsh chemicals and antibacterials, which is probably overkill for cleansing and could even be dangerous to your health if you get them in your ass or vagina. Sex toys can be cleaned in soap and water, and silicone toys can be boiled or put in the dishwasher for an extra good cleansing.

Q: I had a gift certificate to the old Veg Sex Shop, but the code isn't working!
A: Please send an email with your old code, and I'll send you a new gift certificate. My old shopping cart allowed me to keep a list of gift certificate codes and their amounts, but not the email address of the recipient that they were sent to, so I wasn't able to contact you. Sorry!

Q: Can you ship to ______? Why don't you ship to Canada? I'll pay extra!
A: Due to the wide variety of restrictions each country has on sexual products, the Sensual Vegan only ships to US addresses. I used to ship to Canada, but honestly, it's not a good deal for you to buy something from the states, pay a lot for shipping, and then pay customs fees on top. I hate to lose my Canadian customers, but I don't want to see you spending more than your order is really worth. If you're looking to buy from a quality adult retailer in Canada, I suggest looking at Come As You Are (online and in Toronto), or Womyn's Ware (online and in Vancouver). These stores carry many of the same products as you'll find here, and Come As You Are carries Glyde vegan condoms. If you're in Europe, Love Honey (based in England) seems to have a pretty good selection of vegan products, too.

Q: Do you know where I can buy a vegan/organic/hemp/fairtrade/recycled ___?
A: I get a lot of questions about products I don't carry. My suggestion is to Google it and poke around online. If it can't be found after looking at a few pages of search results, it probably doesn't exist (yet).

Q: What about using olive oil or hemp seed oil as lube? Or, What about carrying brand ___, which is an oil-based natural lubricant?
A: I don't carry any oil-based lubes because most people are paring lubes with condoms, and oils of any type destroy condoms. I only carry personal lubricants that are condom-safe so no one ever gets confused and uses the wrong thing for the wrong activity and ends up with an unplanned pregnancy or sexually transmitted infection. Also, I only carry lubes that are actually intended to be used as sexual lubricants- not food products that could double as a lube in some circumstances.

Q: I own a business and would like to order your products, can you send me a wholesale price list?
A: I do not manufacture anything and I do not do any business-to-business wholesaling.  If you are interested in any of the products for sale on the Sensual Vegan, you'll need to contact the company that makes that product.

Q: I own a business and would like you to sell my products.
A: I'd love to give it a try if it's something that's both vegan and fairly sexuality-related. Please send product information and a sample to the address below. I get a lot of inquiries from perfectly awesome-sounding veggie companies about carrying their products, but this is a sex-centric store, so I am not interested in expanding to clothing, fashion accessories, housewares, etc.

Q: Will you send me free products so I can review them on my blog/website?
A:
Maybe. You must already have an established site that is catering to vegans, eco-friendly buyers, or consumers of quality sex products. Your audience must also be primarily American, since this store does not ship outside the USA.

Q: Will you sponsor my event, or advertise with my web site/publication?
A: Probably not. Most requests of this nature that I get are regarding events/advertising that's not in my target market. I do not sponsor events/publications that are not OVERTLY catering to vegans, vegetarians, and animal rights/welfare causes. I've found that doing so just means I lose money.

Orders in the mail

The Sensual Vegan is happy to take your order through the mail. Please write a description of what you want (including any size/color/flavor information) and send a money order for the total made out to my company's official name, Agrimony Photography, and mail it to:

Agrimony Photography
2311 N 45th Street #300
Seattle, WA 98103

Sorry, I do not accept personal checks. Standard shipping via USPS within the US is included. Please drop me email if you're sending an order in the mail, so I can put your order on "hold" for you and make sure to check the mail box.

Shipping and packaging

Standard shipping via USPS (first class or priority) within the US is included. Orders are shipped about twice a week from Seattle. If you have special time constraints or need your purchase shipped by a method other than USPS, please email me and I'll see what I can do.

All orders are sent in nondescript boxes or padded mailers with no identifying information to reveal the contents.

The Sensual Vegan's shipping boxes are made of 60-100% post-consumer recycled material, and are easy to reuse because of their tabbed design that doesn't require much tape. Inside packaging is either re-used packing peanuts or bubble wrap- whatever I've gotten from my own suppliers. Your printed receipts come on paper made mostly of waste fiber from sugarcane processing.

Returns

Due to the personal nature of my merchandise, I do not offer returns or refunds. If something you order is defective, however, please email me for information about exchanging it for the same item.
